From a server under a desk to a complete network solution

In 2004 Networx was recruited by Skin Institute, a cosmetic surgery and skin treatment specialist based in Takapuna, Auckland, to help with their IT and computing needs. The business had been operating for ten years and had experienced significant growth in that time, but unfortunately their IT function had not grown with them.

Although they recognised the need for an office network and central server, they had little specialist knowledge about network setup or server requirements. Hence when Networx first met with Skin Institute, we found their server tucked away below the office manager’s desk, and badly configured.

Our first priority was to stabilise their IT to maximise computer up-time. We properly configured their server to enable them to run the business more efficiently, with fewer problems.

The company’s growth continued and their branches multiplied. Networx set up an inter-branch network between the Takapuna and Silverdale locations, to enable fast, secure communication and transfer of information. Soon after the Ponsonby branch was connected, followed closely by the Parnell and Westgate branches, and the Queenstown branch.

Today, Skin Institute enjoys a completely connected work environment via a Wide Area Network (WAN) and a dedicated central server room, so staff in all branches can access all data centrally and remotely, without the need for a server at every office.

This means they can add bookings and information to their central CRM system from any computer in any branch. Checking doctor and staff availability has never been easier, and they can receive and send emails from any workstation. The increased efficiency and speed this has delivered has been “invaluable”, says Skin Institute Practice Manager, Roseanne Kelly.

Now Networx looks after Skin Institute’s entire IT function. They rely on us to cost-effectively research, source, purchase and maintain their servers, PCs, laptops, backup system, email system and printers, and proactively manage their systems. And because we’re passionate about IT and their business, we’re constantly on the look out for new technologies that will save them time and money.


Emergency computer support leads to a long lasting relationship

Networx’ work for Signworx began quite dramatically on 2nd April 2007. We remember the date well because it was only two days earlier, on 31st March, that the infamous ‘once in 150 year’ storm flooded their Northland premises and wiped out all of their computer equipment and IT systems.

Signworx boss Mike Byrne called us to the rescue, and we were as keen as ever to help, despite having to battle waterlogged roads, slips and severe flood damage to reach their premises in the Bay of Islands.

While most businesses were still mopping water out of their offices, we quickly installed a new computer system for Signworx to get them back up and running as quickly as possible. As signwriters, their computers are not just an aid to business, they are the business, so it was imperative that our fix was quick and effective. And it was. In fact Signworx were so impressed with our service that they immediately took us on as their permanent IT service provider.

Now Signworx enjoy total peace of mind with our 24/7 remote support service. It suits them because their remote location makes it difficult to find IT specialists who can visit them in an emergency. With remote support we can fix their computer issues as soon as they occur, without even having to visit their premises.

We also visit them at least once a year for regular system maintenance and upgrades, and, as with all our clients, we’re always on the lookout for new technologies that could save them time and money, because we’re as passionate about their business as they are.
